Homemade Mosquito Spray

How To Make Your Own Homemade Mosquito Spray

INGREDIENTS

12 oz bottle witch hazel
15 drops citronella essential oil (I use a bit more)
15 drops lemon grass oil (I use a bit more)
10 drops peppermint essential oil
10 drops tee tree oil (optional)
A funnel
An empty spray container
An empty mixing jar to mix the contents in

DIRECTIONS:

Pour witch hazel in the mixing jar and add the essential oils. Shake well and place in your spray bottles using a funnel, is the best way.
Before each use just shake up a bit. Make sure you don't get any in your eyes and when using for your kids just place a little bit over a small area to make sure they are not allergic to any of the essential oils.

    1. Wal Mart, K Mart, any drug store in the health and beauty aisle. Anywhere peroxide and rubbing alcohol are sold.

    2. Anywhere pretty much. Krogers, HEB, CVS, Walgreen's.. It is on isle that has either rubbing alcohol or in the beauty section hear acne facial scrubs.

  5. I have found that Listerine (or dollar store knock off works really well also. Spray it around the area and flies and skeeters stay away.

  6. Anytime you can steer clear of chemicals such as DEET you'll be better off. I plan on camping this fall so this recipe will certainly be in the pack.

Also, if you're in the field and need to treat an insect bite, or stop the bleeding of a cut, search out Plantain Major. For an insect bite crush the leaves well and rub it on the bite. The oils from the leaves will take away the itch/sting. To slow the blood flow from a cut, chew the leaves from the plantain major plant and make juicy wad of it, place it on the wound and tape in place. Mind you, once you reach base camp or home clean the wound and properly treat it.

Thanks for the Mosquito Spray formula.

  11. Can you either leave out or substitute the mint? I'm allergic to mint. For me the itchy rash would be worse than the mosquitoes.

    1. just exclude the mint. It works well without mint too. I use Eucalyptus in mine as well and it works great.

  18. Para controlar los misquitos al menos en tu casa lo mejor es instalar mosquiteras para poder estar tranquilos y no arriesgarse a sufrir picaduras de ningún tipo de mosquitos.
